The Graduate

January 25, 2013 by jcarsen

This week, in addition to Crazy Baby Wednesday, I’m pleased to bring you a special edition of Matriculated Spouse Friday.

As anyone who’s ever graduated from college knows, it’s not easy. It’s not easy even when you’re lucky enough to have your parents footing the bill, and your biggest worry is figuring out what kind of pizza will best fuel you through that all-nighter.

But it’s especially challenging when you get your bachelor’s degree in fits and starts over a period of several years. When you need to find a way to pay for it yourself. When some credits transfer over and some don’t. When you have a small child who likes to appropriate everything you own, including your textbooks. When you have a newborn who doesn’t understand that the concept of “middle of the night screaming” is incompatible with the concept of “paper due tomorrow.”

And especially when the momentum of life is against you finishing – when you’ve found a line of work that you don’t particularly like but that you’re good at and that pays well enough, and when it seems like there’s not much point in working so hard just to get that little piece of paper that might, just maybe, pay dividends in the form of a better life down the line.

Which is why I’m so very proud of Eric, a newly minted December graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, B.S. in Accounting. Way to go, sweetie.

Great accomplishment!! Congrats to your hubby on a job well done!!! It is definitely not easy to get a degree, especially once you are not a teen anymore and have a family to take care of…

  3. That is so excellent! And I am always amazed at people who ENJOY doing things with numbers. Steve’s been studying for his electrical masters and Anna also helpfully adds to his meticulous highlighting in the textbooks.

Congrats to all of you, well done!
